Eagle resident Kathy Chandler-Henry will be the new District 2 Eagle County commissioner after the Eagle County Democratic Party Vacancy Committee selected her late last week.

Chandler-Henry will replace commissioner Jon Stavney, who stepped down from office in order to take the position as the Eagle town manager.

"Chandler-Henry is a long-time resident of Eagle County, a tireless supporter and volunteer for the Eagle County Democratic Party and has a wealth of experience in facilitating, organizing and negotiating meetings, focus groups, non-profit efforts and county outreach programs and initiatives," according to the Eagle County Democratic Party.

The vacancy committee made the appointment after a three-week process. At their third public meeting held Thursday night in Basalt, the candidate interview process continued, followed by a vote by the committee.

"We were thrilled to have such a strong field of qualified, dedicated candidates. This was not an easy decision," said Vacancy Committee Chairwoman Pat Hammon, "Eagle County is fortunate to have these incredible citizens who are dedicated to public service."

Chandler-Henry was chosen from a field of five contenders that included Adam Palmer, Jerry McMahan, Rohn Robbins and Paul Witt.

Hammon also praised the Vacancy Committee for a transparent selection process that included televised interviews, postings of resumes and answers to question on Democratic Party website, a process for community input and meetings held both in the Eagle Valley and Roaring Fork Valley.

"Due to this process, we had a very positive result," said Hammon.

Chandler-Henry will begin her term July 1.
