Registration is under way for the Vail Recreation District's (VRD) High Country Hoops and Youth Volleyball programs, offering children an opportunity to stay busy indoors and out of the cold this upcoming winter.

Returning for its 17th year, High Country Hoops will offer children in grades first through fifth an opportunity to refine their basketball skills and play games against each other Nov. 1 through Dec.15 at Homestake Peak School (old Battle Mountain High School). Each session will consist of 45 minutes of practice followed by a 45 minute game. Grades first through second will play and practice from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and grades third through fifth will play and practice from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Coach's children play for free. Cost is $45 per player.
The Youth Volleyball program returns for its second year and will offer children in grades third through eighth an opportunity to keep their volleyball skills fresh throughout the winter. Grades third through fifth will practice and play from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, Nov. 7 through Dec. 12 and grades sixth through eighth will practice and play from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, Nov. 2 through Dec. 14. The volleyball program will be professionally coached by the Vail Volleyball Club and take place at Homestake Peak School (old Battle Mountain High School). Cost is $60 per per player.

The VRD's youth winter sports leagues, including High Country Hoops and fall and spring soccer, are sponsored by the Vail Daily, American National Bank and David Honda's Vail Sports Medicine Physical Therapy.
