Loveland Ski Area to serve up free pancakes for snow riders ahead of I-70 rock-work closure

To accommodate skiers and riders headed to the mountains earlier than normal to avoid closures on I-70, Loveland Ski Area will offer a free pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m on Tuesday, April 5.

"While CDOT is working hard to ensure the safety of travelers on I-70, Loveland Ski Area will be running the lifts from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m," said John Sellers, marketing and Communications director. "The road closures will not affect our operations, but we realize that our skiers and riders will have to get an early start if they want to enjoy the new spring snow. On Tuesday, we will reward the early birds with a free pancake breakfast."

The Colorado Department of Transportation is removing about 40 unstable boulders between Georgetown and Silverton, and the I-70 will be shut down from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The highway could be closed again on Wednesday depending on how the rock work progresses. Check the CDOT website or call 511 for the latest information.

The free pancake breakfast is available to all skiers and riders from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. in The Basin Cafeteria. The free pancake breakfast comes with bacon, coffee and hot chocolate.

"We are expecting to see smaller crowds because of the closures," Sellers continued. "The pancakes will be gone at 10 a.m., but un-tracked lines will be available all day. [It will] be a great spring day with new snow, sunshine and piles of free pancakes for the skiers and riders that make the trip."

Loveland has received 441 inches of snow so far this season and currently has a 97-inch mid-mountain base.
