The Vail Recreation District (VRD) will begin accepting registration for its adult summer softball leagues on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 18 at the VRD administration office, located at 700 S. Frontage Rd.. East, adjacent to the Ford Park softball fields.

Cost for team registration is $525 for VRD taxpayers, plus a $20 forfeit deposit; or $575 for non-VRD taxpayers, plus a $20 forfeit deposit. Payment is required at the time of registration and all checks should be made out to VRD Sports.

The leagues and team space availability are as follows:

* Coed Recreation Leagues play Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the summer, beginning June 3 for the Monday night league and May 29 for the Wednesday night league. 12 team spaces will be available within each league.

* The Men's Open League will play Tuesdays, beginning May 28 with 12 team spaces available.

* The Vail Business League (Men's) will play Thursdays, beginning May 30 with 12 team spaces available.

All games will be played at the Ford Park softball fields in 2013. Players must be 18 years or older and each team must have a minimum of eight players to finish the game. Each league consists of a regular season followed by playoffs.

During the 2014 softball season, the Ford Park softball fields will receive a major renovation, including all new playing surfaces for softball players and other recreation users. The VRD is working on a plan to utilize other fields in surrounding communities to provide a 2014 softball season.
