Wonderful weather for women golfers

Tranquil weather has left this blogger with little to write about on the weather front. However, this past week I jaunted up to the beautiful Red Sky Ranch Golf Club to watch some of the best co-ed golfers take to the links.

The Golfweek Conference Challenge saw teams from all over the country fall onto the Vail Valley for three days of golf, shopping and fun. Lady golfers took over the Tom Fazio designed golf course where the fairways were firm and the greens were slick, and, as mentioned, the weather was perfect.

Harvard, Pepperdine, Tennessee, and Arizona were just a few of the 18 teams that teed off on the Vail Resorts owned Fazio course, with the Lady Cavaliers of Virginia taking home the title after three days of gorgeous golf.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Real Vail blog without an underlying story regarding our little ski town. Coach Wendi Wiese of Texas A&M is an alumn of said school. She played under then coach Jeanne Sunderland, who is now the head golf professional at the Vail Golf Club.

Jeanne's wisdom led Wendi to Vail after graduation, and for three summers Wendi worked at the Vail Golf Club as an assistant. I was lucky enough to spawn a friendship with Wendi and her husband David. And, every year, it seems Wendi will make her way up to these mountains, whether it be in the winter for skiing or summer for recruiting trips. It's almost guaranteed that I get an email that ends - a&m.edu.

And now that we have a prominent college golf tournament in our happy little valley, I'm sure to get more emails in the future, and that's just fine with me. For stats on this past weeks tournament and future tournaments visit www.golfstat.com.
