Pennsylvania man dies of head trauma after skiing crash at Beaver Creek on Monday
An 18-year-old skier from Pennsylvania who was wearing a helmet died of head trauma after hitting a tree while skiing at Beaver Creek on Monday, the Eagle County coroner said today.
Coroner Kara Bettis today identified the skier as Richard Cullinan Jr., of Pennsylvania.
Cullinan, from the Pittsburgh area, was skiing on the intermediate Red Tail run at about 9 a.m. Monday when members of his party saw him catch the edge of his ski and slide into a tree, Bettis said.
Beaver Creek ski patrol transported Cullinan to Vail Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:17 a.m.
This is the second skier death at Beaver Creek this season. In December, a 59-year-old Colorado Springs man died of blunt force trauma after crashing while skiing in gladed area near the Goshawk run. Last March a 13-year-old Texas girl died in skiing accident at Beaver Creek.
And just this past Friday a 73-year-old Pennsylvania man died in a collision with another skier at Snowmass.
