A woman was killed and a man was wounded in an apparent shooting in El Jebel on Saturday, according to the Eagle County Sheriff's Office.

Police responded to a call of shots fired at a home on Vega Drive in the Missouri Heights area of El Jebel at 11:30 a.m. Deputies found a woman already dead and a wounded man.

“Both appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds,” according to an Eagle County Sheriff's Office press release. The man was transported to Valley View Medical Center in Glenwood Springs in critical condition. He later died at the hospital.

El Jebel is in far western unincorporated Eagle County in the Roaring Fork River Valley near Aspen.

“At this time there is no threat to anyone in the El Jebel area,” police said. “This incident is currently under investigation.”

When asked by the Denver Post whether the man shot the woman and then turned the gun on himself, sheriff's spokeswoman Jessie Mosher told the Post, "We're not looking for any suspects." The man and the woman were reportedly married.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Eagle County Sheriff's Office at (970) 328-8500 or Eagle County Crime Stoppers at 970-328-7007 or 1-800-972-TIPS.

Submit a tip online at www.tipsubmit.com, or text a tip by cell phone by texting STOPCRIME plus your message to CRIMES (274637).

If a tip leads to the arrest and indictment of any suspect involved, tipsters can earn up to $1,000 in reward money from the Crime Stoppers.

Editor's note: On Sunday, the sheriff's office issued this release identifying the couple:

Sunday, September 9, 2012. The two victims in [Saturday's] shooting have been identified as 68-year-old Andrew Mazeika and 54-year-old Judi Mazeika. As a result of the investigation detectives with the Eagle County Sheriff's Office believe that this incident appears to be a homicide-suicide. The final determination of the cause of death will be released by the Eagle County Coroner's Office after autopsies have been completed.
