Vail's Philippon named to U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation's Board of Trustees

Dr. Marc J. Philippon, Managing Partner of The Steadman Clinic and director of the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, CO, has been named to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation's Board of Trustees. The announcement was made by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association's (USSA) President and CEO Bill Marolt.

Philippon, who is one of the world's leading orthopedic hip surgeons, joined The Steadman Clinic in 2005 after serving at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he was Director of Sports Related Hip Disorders as well as Director of the UPMC Golf Medicine Program.

"Marc's knowledge can play an integral role in furthering the work of our athletic organization in sports medicine," said Marolt. "His enthusiasm and knowledge of both our sport and how to best treat our athletes will prove to be very important in achieving our Best in the World vision."

Known internationally for performing hip joint preservation techniques, Dr. Philippon treats painful joint injury in high level athletes. He is a consultant to many teams within the National Hockey League, National Football League, National Basketball Association and Major League Baseball. He is also a consultant to the NHLpa.

Dr. Philippon is an active member with the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is also a fellow with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a Master Instructor with the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Masters Experience Hip Course and a member of the Herodicus Society.

"I am honored to be a part of this Board" said Philippon. "After treating numerous USSA athletes I am extremely impressed with the caliber of person and athlete the USSA supports. I am very proud to be a part of this team and to help athletes optimize their training and medical care."

Dr. Philippon lives with his family in Vail where they're active skiers at Vail and Beaver Creek.

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation is the nonprofit, fundraising arm of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), the national governing body of Olympic skiing and snowboarding. With an organizational vision to be the best in the world in Olympic skiing and snowboarding, the foundation raises money to support year-round athlete training, development, competition and educational needs of world-class athletes pursuing their Olympic dream.

The USSA receives no federal funding or subsidy moneys and operates solely through private donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. Some of the major giving programs include Olympic hospitality, major gifts, the Gold Pass program, special event fundraisers, VIP on-snow clinics and planned giving. The Foundation was incorporated in 1964 as a 501(c) 3 organization and is based in Park City, UT.
