There will likely be eight candidates for four open seats in the Nov. 8 Vail Town Council election, including some very familiar names.

Vail Town Clerk Lorelei Donaldson Friday confirmed that five more nominating petitions were submitted as of the 5 p.m. deadline today, including former Vail Mayor Ludwig Kurz.

As of Thursday, only three petitions had been submitted and certified – former council members Farrow Hitt and Greg Moffet and incumbent Margaret Rogers.
Today they were joined by Kurz, incumbent Andy Daly, former candidates Buddy Lazier and Stephen Connolly and newcomer Rayla Kundolf, a well-known figure in the local arts scene.

Lazier, according to Donaldson, only submitted nine valid signatures from registered Vail voters (10 are required) and has 12 days to get one more valid signature. He submitted several signatures of people not registered to vote in Vail.

The four seats up for grabs belong to Mayor Dick Cleveland, who will not run again, Daly, Rogers and Kim Newbury, who is term-limited and couldn't run again.
